Material Characteristics: Black walnut wood is hard and stable, with moderate density and excellent bending and compressive strength. The heartwood is chocolate to dark brown with purple or black streaks, and has a silky sheen after polishing. The wood dries slowly but is not prone to cracking, making it suitable for high-end furniture, musical instruments, gunstocks, etc. For daily maintenance, use a special wood wax oil to wipe it regularly, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Market Positioning: Among solid wood materials, its price is higher than oak and cherry, but lower than rare woods such as mahogany and ebony. North American FAS grade boards cost approximately 20,000-30,000 RMB per cubic meter, and finished furniture made from them costs 3-5 times more than ordinary wood. The main consumer group is middle- to high-income individuals, and it is often used in villa decoration, high-end clubs, and designer furniture.

Processing Technology: The wood has a smooth cut surface, good gluing and staining properties. Common processing methods include CNC carving, hand planing, and steam bending. High-end furniture often employs mortise and tenon joints. Water-based environmentally friendly paint or wood wax oil are recommended for surface treatment. Avoid prolonged contact with metal to prevent corrosion from tannins.

Alternative Options: For those with a limited budget, consider walnut veneer furniture or African walnut. South American walnut is 30% cheaper but slightly less stable, while European walnut has a lighter grain. To distinguish genuine from counterfeit, observe the density of the growth rings in the cross-section. Genuine walnut has a clear, landscape-like grain, while counterfeit products often use ordinary wood stained with dye.

Collectible Value: North American black walnut has a growth cycle of 50-80 years, making it increasingly scarce. High-quality boards appreciate in value by approximately 5%-8% annually, with single planks featuring unique grain patterns having even greater collectible value. For storage, maintain an ambient humidity between 45%-55% and use insect-proof wooden shelves.
